Penn Hills Haunted History:

Ghost Stories & Local Lore

Long before Penn Hills Library built its modern home on Stotler Road, the ground beneath us was carved out by the hands of weary coal miners. Thousands of men descended into the pitch-black abyss of Western Pennsylvania’s labyrinthine mines. Many never returned to the surface.

Do their spirits still wander the forgotten, hollowed-out chambers deep beneath our feet?

Penn Hills Library has been a sanctuary for stories. From their humble beginnings in a Chestnut Plaza storefront to the grand opening of their Stotler Road building in 2007, thousands of pages have been turned within their walls. But some stories refuse to stay bound to the page. Beneath the modern architecture lies a region steeped in centuries of untold mysteries, forgotten coal mines, and restless spirits.

The veil thins at the library. Step out of the light of their modern reading rooms and into the shadows of our haunted presentations.

Discover what—or who—is whispering behind the bookshelves.
