Spooky Ocean City:
The Haunted Life-Saving Station
Constructed in 1891, the Ocean City Life-Saving Station originally served the U.S. Life-Saving Service. The U.S. Coast Guard actively operated this coastal safety site until 1964. For over 70 years, brave surfmen used the station to rescue vessels in distress and save lives threatened by the Atlantic Ocean.
In 1977, the historic building faced demolition after years of neglect. Local citizens rallied together to save the structure from destruction. They successfully relocated the building to the south end of the Ocean City boardwalk, where it stands today as a museum overlooking the inlet.
Step into the dark history of the Maryland coast. Shipwrecks, drownings, and hypothermia have claimed the lives of countless sailors and locals over the centuries. While these sailors are gone, their spirits remain.
The Ocean City Life-Saving Museum is famous for paranormal activity and ghost sightings. Visitors and investigators report numerous instances of paranormal phenomena, including:
Phantom figures dressed in historic attire.
Wet footsteps appearing on dry floorboards.
Sounds of a young child playing with toys on the second floor.
The museum’s antique arcade prop, known to erupt into unexplained cackling laughter on its own.
Ghost hunters have captured chilling Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVPs) inside the building. Audio recordings reveal a spirit screaming out for “Help.” Is this the soul of a shipwrecked sailor still waiting to be rescued?
If you dare, explore the museum’s historic exhibits and experience one of the most haunted places in Ocean City, MD.
