Haunted Teachings:
Historical Castle Shannon Library
Discover the haunted history of the Castle Shannon Library in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Founded in 1949 by a dedicated group of local women, the historic public library holds decades of secrets.
In 1958, the Castle Shannon Borough purchased the historic railroad building. They dedicated 714 square feet of space to the library, sparking a massive expansion.
A major driving force behind this growth was Hazel Bost, a founding member of the Women’s Club and the Friends of the Library. She established and served as the first president of the Board of Trustees. Today, you can visit the right-hand side of the building to view the memorial garden and compass dedicated to Ms. Bost’s incredible legacy.
While the Friends of the Library still actively raise money for the collections and services, some say past residents never truly left.
