Inside the Haunted Grand Midway Hotel

and Renaissance Church

The Grand Midway Hotel and Renaissance Church is a legendary destination for paranormal investigators. Famous for hosting the world’s largest Ouija board, this historic property is no longer in full operation. However, it still houses a few invite-only ghostly guests within its historic walls.

Dating back to the late 1880s, the establishment stands as one of Windber’s earliest businesses. It originally served as a central station for incoming coal mining immigrants. In later years, the building’s history took a darker turn when it operated as a local brothel.

The Grand Midway Hotel is famous for the ghost of Martha, who met a tragic death on the 4th of July. Legend states she was watching fireworks with her family when a stray rocket struck and killed her instantly.

Martha is not the only entity roaming this 32-room haunted hotel. Visitors and paranormal researchers frequently report:

Apparitions wandering from room to room.

Strange noises echoing through empty hallways.

A constant feeling of being watched from dark corners.

Are you brave enough? Pick a room and stay the night to experience these haunts yourself.

The hauntings extend beyond the hotel walls. Located just a few blocks away, the Renaissance Church boasts its own terrifying share of ghostly encounters.

When you step inside, the church doors swing open on their own, and the sound of heavy footsteps echoes all around you. From there, venture down into the dark, sinister basement. Hidden corner rooms harbor lost souls that secretly watch your every move.
