Greene County Museum was founded in 1925 by the Greene County Historical Society and Museum. The house use to be known as a smaller scale asylum and many tragic occurrences took place onsite.
The building, known as the Greene Hills Poor Farm, housed poor and destitute people and was very violent at times. Inmates were chained to the walls in the basement and due to overcrowding created horrific living conditions.
Step inside to find yourself surrounded by numerous local historical artifacts, antique medical tools & equipment and a mixture of WWI & WWWII items.
Listen closely, you may hear screams or the clanking of chains from the basement of the troubled souls still living at the poorhouse. Sounds of the printing press machines hard at work.
Make your way into one of the many rooms the house has to offer. If this old building doesn’t give you the creeps, walk through the Doctor’s office to find yourself being looked over by some ghostly doctor ready to use century old medical equipment.
Next, take a seat in the Chapel room where a replica stained-glass window overlooks the room. Be quiet, you may hear footsteps coming your way or a full-body apparition sitting next to you in the pew.
Don’t leave yet, venture to the dark, creepy basement to visit the forgot souls chained in their cells. They need their voices to be heard loud and clear and will make their presence known any way they can.
Get ready for some spooky and hair-raising moments as this museum comes to life!
